Local Concerns

Noise

Over Occupancy

Parking

Tourist should not act any different than a full time renter, 2nd home owner or local owner. This includes during the day. The new ordinance has dropped code calls.

Parking

Parking

Guests to Big Bear need to follow all regulations.  The city has issues a great deal of parking violations and has formed a new ordinance.  Capping the number of adults in each home has improved parking.

Traffic in Big Bear

The city needs to enforce the occupancy laws and evict guests and give fines.  In the past guests could have more people during the day but limits were only on at night, this has changed.  The city needs to consider raising the fines and even consider being interviewed by LA an San Diego TV stations.  Big Bear is not the place for parties.

Traffic in Big Bear

The city needs to improve the traffic in Big Bear.  This needs to be an ongoing priority.  Traffic controllers need to be posted around town.  Possible more free shuttle services in town and even into the neighborhoods as other mountain towns do.

Trash sites in Big Bear

Saturation / Full Time Rentals

Why as locals do we have to live with the mess that tourists leave behind.  The city has instituted a new creative popup trash sites on busy weekends.  These sites have shown great results and saves city tax dollars instead of building permanent sites.

Saturation / Full Time Rentals

Our neighborhoods have more Vacation Rentals than full time Neighbors.  The number of 2nd homes has not changed, it has always been about 7500.  The only difference is owners gave the homes away free  but now the city is registering them.  Should we cap the #?

Where we are now?

Big Bear is growing and now is the time to unite.

A lot has changed in Big Bear in the last five years but especially in the last year.  COVID accelerated our growth and caused Big Bear to be discovered.  Big Bear has changed more in the last 5 years then it did in the previous 15 years and this is due to new businesses investing in Big Bear along with people discovering our beauty.  People come to Big Bear for the weekend to enjoy the town not just for skiing any more.  Driving to Mammoth or Tahoe for world class skiing or driving to Big Bear in less than 3 hours for skiing and a great village!  There is still more work to be done but everyone does agree that the new ordinance is working.  The question is what do we do next?
